HERITAGE SHED with MArch U5 (Kingston School of Art)

This installation is considered the catalyst for SHEDx, a community-led regeneration project in Tolworth. Designed and built by MArch Unit 5 students from Kingston School of Art and led by Takeshi Hayatsu and Jim Reed in collaboration with The Community Brain, this project replicates a specific run-down shed from the Tolworth allotments which acts as an architectural representation of British allotment culture.

Inside, the shed exhibits some detailed survey drawings made by the students of plots within the Tolworth Allotments and showcases various recorded oral histories and interviews from allotment owners.

The Heritage Shed has been designed to be flat-pack and mobile, allowing for it to be transported and exhibited throughout London to create a thought-provoking presence. The project first exhibited at the Royal Hampton Court Palace Flower Show and won an RHS Medal. It has since exhibited at the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Lambeth Palace Garden Museum, with future plans for the shed to appear across the local borough.
