WILD TOLWORTH with Citizen Zoo and The Community Brain
121 Collective’s ongoing work at Tolworth Court Farm Fields brings together design, making and community participation as part of the reserve’s wider rewilding. Working alongside Citizen Zoo, The Community Brain and Kingston Council, the practice is developing a family of interventions that help people find, explore and build a connection with this changing landscape.
Recent work includes illustrated maps, oak map frames, rusted steel monoliths and new signage. The maps bring routes, habitats and wildlife together, helping visitors navigate the reserve and look more closely at what lives there. Animal silhouettes cut through the steel markers frame glimpses of woodland and meadow, allowing the landscape itself to become part of each sign.
Making with local people remains central to the project. Through an ongoing programme of clay tile workshops, participants are creating individual pieces that will later be installed on site. These sessions make room for conversation, experimentation and the pleasure of making together, giving people a direct hand in shaping the reserve’s future additions.
Six cows are now on site, marking an exciting new chapter in the wider rewilding project. Their arrival brings another presence to the meadows, alongside the wildlife already living here and the possibility of more species making the reserve their home.
The work continues. New oak gateways are planned, and community tile-making will carry on ahead of installation. Each addition forms part of a longer relationship with the site: responding to its changing needs while making space for people and wildlife to share it.
