FARM OF FUTURES with The Community Brain

Our studio is based at the Farm of Futures, a growing community space on the Tolworth Main Allotments. Housed in a converted building that once belonged to the Tolworth Allotment Society, the Farm is now a shared workshop, growing plot, and hub for local ideas, skill-sharing, and creativity.

Since 2019, we’ve worked alongside volunteers and neighbours to shape the site into what it is today, home to a functioning workshop and studio, a community food-growing plot, and The Surbiton Community Forge. The space has been carefully repaired and reimagined using mostly reclaimed materials, staying true to the spirit of the allotments and making the most of what’s already available.

The Farm embraces upcycling as a way of working, transforming local waste into useful materials that feed directly into community-led projects across the area. It’s a place for experimentation, where making, repairing, and reusing sit at the heart of everything we do. We're continuing to evolve the space, with a focus on developing better facilities for craft-led activities, hands-on workshops, and community-led building and making.

The Farm of Futures is just one part of our long-running partnership with The Community Brain, a creative organisation that helps communities imagine and shape the future of where they live. Their work is rooted in the belief that everyone is brilliant when given the support and permission to be brilliant.

Together, we’ve delivered a wide range of projects including public art, installations, wayfinding, and public furniture that celebrate local stories, spark curiosity, and invite people to play an active role in their neighbourhoods. Since 2018, this has included our annual, community-driven installations at the RHS Hampton Court Garden Festival. Whether it’s transforming underused spaces, crafting community-built structures, or designing objects that encourage interaction, our shared ethos centres on participation, creativity, and pride in place.
